Author Readings Presented by The Seattle Public Library in September

The Seattle Public Library will feature writers and their work at several locations throughout Seattle in September.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Hsiao-Ching Chou – 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Magnolia Farmers Market, West McGraw Street and 33rd Avenue West. Local author Hsiao-Ching Chou demonstrates a fresh vegetable recipe from her cookbook, "Chinese Soul Food: A Friendly Guide to Homemade Dumplings, Stir-Fries, Soups & More."
Cynthia Nims – 10:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 2 at the West Seattle Farmer's Market, 44th Avenue Southwest & Southwest Alaska Street. Local author Nims demonstrates a recipe from her cookbook, "Crab: 50 Recipes with the Fresh Taste of the Sea."
Patrick deWitt with Maria Semple – 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. The Prices and their cat (or is he the spirit of Frances’ late husband?) try to escape a crises by heading to Paris. "French Exit" is a send-up of high society and a moving mother/son caper.
Maria Dahvana Headley with Nicola Griffith – 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Headley presents "The Mere Wife," a retelling of Beowulf set in American suburbia as two mothers―a housewife and a battle-hardened veteran―fight to protect those they love.
Vishavjit Singh – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Vishavjit Singh, aka Sikh Captain America, shares stories with cartoons and photographs. At this event, "Comics for Good: Fighting Hate and Stereotypes through Cartoons" there are wild twists and turns, turbans and beards, love and despair, war and peace, Captain America and cool shoes.
Frank Abe, Shawn Wong and Stephen Sumida with Tom Ikeda – 2 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Join us for the book launch of "John Okada: The Life & Rediscovered Work of the Author of 'No-No Boy'" on the 95th anniversary of Okada's birth, at the library where he once worked as a reference librarian. Co-editor Abe will present images from his new biography of Okada, and join contributors Wong and Sumida for a conversation moderated by Tom Ikeda of Densho. Along with other sponsors, this event is presented in partnership with Densho and the Wing Luke Museum.
Arjun Singh Sethi – 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. In "American Hate: Survivors Speak Out," Sethi, a community activist and civil rights lawyer, discusses the stories of individuals affected by hate. This event includes a panel discussion with Sethi, Matt Remle, Soya & Aneelah Afzali. Along with other sponsors, this event is presented in partnership with ChangeLab and the American Muslim Empowerment Network.
