Dissolving Childhood Friendships: Claire Messud Reads From 'The Burning Girl' at The Seattle Public Library Nov. 10

New York Times best-selling author Claire Messud will discuss her new novel "The Burning Girl," a coming-of-age story about friendship unraveling, from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636.
Library events are free and open to the public. Tickets and registration are not required. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $6 after 5 p.m.
"I was treated as a kid with a bright future and Cassie, well, she wasn't necessarily not going to have one, but her path would be different than mine." Julia and Cassie have been friends since nursery school. They have shared everything, including their desire to escape the stifling limitations of their small town. But as the two girls enter adolescence, their paths diverge. Cassie sets out on a journey that will put her life in danger and shatter her oldest friendship.
Messud is a recipient of Guggenheim and Radcliffe Fellowships and the Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Author of five previous works of fiction including her novel "The Woman Upstairs," she lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her family.
