Concerts, Previews and Performances at The Seattle Public Library in October

The Seattle Public Library will host concerts, musical preview lectures and dramatic performances at several locations throughout the city in October.

Seattle Opera Preview: The Turning of the Screw – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Northeast Branch, 6801 35th Ave. N.E., 206-684-7539. Join Theodore Deacon for an entertaining preview lecture of this spine tingling ghost story. It begins with a governess who travels to an isolated mansion, hired by a mysterious guardian to care for two orphaned children.
Ladies Musical Club – Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditoritum, 206-386-4636. Join us for a Ladies Musical Club concert featuring solo piano works by Chopin, Scriabin, Granados and other composers. Featured performers will include Karin McCullough on piano.
PlayBack Launch Party – 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at Barboza, 925 E Pike St. Join us for live music to celebrate PlayBack, the Library’s music streaming collection that highlights amazing local talent. This event features Guayaba, BEARAXE, and special guests. This venue is for ages 21 and up; you must have ID to enter.
Come From Away: A Journey from Gander to Broadway – 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Washington Mutual Foundation Meeting Room 1, 206-386-4636. The Library and the 5th Avenue Theatre welcome you to a panel discussion, with local artists and community leaders, on the hit Broadway musical "Come From Away." We'll explore the making of a Broadway hit and the unique way in which musical theater can memorialized the triumphs of everyday people.
Ballet Folklorico - 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21 at the Northgate Branch, 10548 Fifth Ave. N.E., 206-386-1980. Ballet Folklorico Angeles de México stems from the desire to share part of our culture and customs through the art of music and dance with the aim to include dancers of all ages, genders and families so that everyone involved in the same activity can learn, teach and have fun together.
The Library brings people, information and ideas together to enrich lives and build community. We support universal access to information and ideas, and form strong partnerships with community organizations to offer performance art that is accessible to all. We accomplish this by finding creative solutions like PlayBack to meet the public's changing needs and interests.
