Starting this week, Seattle residents who need critical information about food, shelter and many other services can consult with one of the Library's community resource specialists.

Previously offered at the Central Library and two branches during drop-in hours, this free service is now offered by phone or email. It aims to help Seattle’s most vulnerable residents connect to shelter, food, utility assistance and updated COVID-19 resources. Specialists can also help with questions around job resources, legal help, transportation, Internet access and more.

“Although the Library’s physical locations are closed, folks can still turn to the Library to get their questions answered,” said Brooke Castleberry, clinical supervisor for the program. “We’re doing the best we can to listen closely and can get people the help they need during a very overwhelming time.”

Community resource specialist staff are available by phone from Monday through Thursday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. People in need of help can email communityresources@spl.org or call 206-386-9852, or leave a message after hours. They can also make a phone appointment.

This service is presented in partnership with Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC). Additional community resources for city residents can be found at www.seattle.gov/mayor/covid-19. Residents in crisis should call Crisis Connections at 206-461-3222.
