Fully Refurbished Greenwood Branch of The Seattle Public Library Reopens 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5

The Seattle Public Library's Greenwood Branch, 8016 Greenwood Ave. N., 206-684-4086 , will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5 after being closed for nine days for installation of an exterior glass wall.
The public is invited to enjoy refreshments and entertainment to celebrate the fully refurbished branch from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 15.
Holds that were temporarily suspended beginning Saturday, June 17 will be automatically restarted effective July 5. Patrons do not need to take any action to restart their holds. Patrons who picked up their holds at another branch during the closure should talk with a staff member if they need help to restore their holds pickup location to the Greenwood Branch.
The 12-year-old branch was closed Feb. 13-April 16, 2017, for refurbishing and improvements that support the changing ways that patrons are using libraries. The branch closed again June 26 for a brief second phase of work so a temporary plywood wall could be replaced with glass.
Improvements included adding a laptop bar in the teen area, combining service desks, increasing seating options, adding electrical outlets to tables, upgrading the meeting room and repositioning the public computers to reduce glare. The worn carpet in the branch also was replaced.
The changes were designed to improve access to technology, make it easier for patrons to interact with one another, and create flexible, open, welcoming spaces throughout the building.
The Library promised to protect the public's investment in its buildings as part of the 2012 voter-approved Library levy. The Greenwood Branch improvements are part of the Library's commitment to ensuring its buildings are well-maintained, clean and comfortable for patrons.
