July 2022 Author Events and Community Dialogues Hosted by The Seattle Public Library

The Seattle Public Library’s author programs, book discussions and community dialogues this July include Daniel James Brown in conversation with Tom Ikeda about his new book “Facing the Mountain,” and two Clarion West events.
The events at Central Library will also be livestreamed via Zoom. Registration is required for both in-person and online attendance; check the event description at spl.org/Calendar for registration and links. All events are free and open to the public.
Note that all locations of The Seattle Public Library will be closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
EVENTS SCHEDULE
- From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 5. Clarion West presents Fonda Lee - Central Library and online. Fonda Lee is the World Fantasy Award-winning author of the epic urban fantasy “Green Bone Saga” as well as the acclaimed young adult science fiction novels “Zeroboxer,” “Exo,” and “Cross Fire.” This event is supported by The Seattle Public Library Foundation, author series sponsors the Gary and Connie Kunis Foundation and Seattle City of Literature, and is presented in partnership with University Book Store.
- From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 10. Virtual Writers Read – online. This monthly reading series features local writers reading from their diverse repertoires of poetry, short stories, novels and essays. It is presented in partnership with African-American Writers' Alliance on the second Sunday of the month.
- From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 23. Daniel James Brown, Tom Ikeda and Michael Shiosaki Discuss “Facing the Mountain” - Central Library and online. Bestselling author Daniel James Brown (“The Boys in the Boat”) will talk with Densho’s Executive Director Tom Ikeda and Michael Shiosaki about Brown’s latest book, “Facing the Mountain: An Inspiring Story of Japanese American Patriots in World War II.” Presented in partnership with Elliott Bay Book Company and Densho, this event is supported by The Seattle Public Library Foundation and the Gary and Connie Kunis Foundation.
- From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 26. Clarion West Presents Annalee Newitz & Charlie Jane Anders - Central Library and online. Science journalist Annalee Newitz, author of “Four Lost Cities: A Secret History of the Urban Age” and the novels “The Future of Another Timeline,” and Lambda-Award winning “Autonomous,” will read with Charlie Jane Anders, author of “Victories Greater Than Death.” Anders’ TED Talk, “Go Ahead, Dream About the Future,” earned 700,000 views in its first week. Newitz and Anders also co-host the podcast “Our Opinions Are Correct.” Presented in partnership with University Book Store, this event is supported by The Seattle Public Library Foundation and author series sponsors the Gary and Connie Kunis Foundation and Seattle City of Literature.

Mask use is strongly encouraged and additional safety precautions are in place: Library staff are fully vaccinated and continue to wear masks, the Library offers free masks and hand sanitizer to patrons at sanitation stations, and all Library locations have high-quality ventilation and air filtration.
