Join artist Mita Mahato for a drawing workshop using local bird specimens from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 23 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Washington Mutual Foundation Meeting Room 1, 206-386-4636.

Library events are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $6 after 5 p.m.

Celebrate the start of Bird Week 2018 at a still life bird drawing workshop! Seward Park Audubon Center will provide a number of bird specimens, including mallards, buffleheads and western tanagers. Mahato will lead patrons through blind drawing, line drawing, and cut paper exercises.

Mahato is a Seattle-based cut paper, collage and comics artist whose work explores the transformative capacities of found and handmade papers. Her comic "Sea" was recognized by Cartoonists NW as 2015’s “best comic book,” and she recently released a book of poetry comics called "In Between." Mahato is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Puget Sound, serves on the board for the arts organization Short Run Seattle, and is a teaching artist with the Henry Art Gallery.

Bird Week, April 23-28, 2018, is a city-wide celebration of birds in honor of Seward Park Audubon Center's 10th anniversary. Bird Week is presented in partnership with The Seattle Public Library, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seward Park Audubon Center, BirdNote, Seattle Audubon and Top Pot Doughnuts.
