Thinking about what your family might do with all that free time next week? The Seattle Public Library is here for you, offering free access to movies, music, museums and more to keep your family entertained during Seattle Public Schools' Midwinter Break this Feb. 15-19.

10 Midwinter Break Activities for Your Family from The Seattle Public Library

  1. Borrow books, music and DVDs - Though Library buildings are closed, you can still pick up and return Library materials at 13 locations throughout the city (soon to be more!). You can also print up to 10 free black and white pages per day to pick up at our curbside service locations. Learn more about current Library services on our Road to Reopening page.
  2. Museum Pass - This beloved Library service is back! Beginning Friday, Feb. 12, reserve free passes to visit four of Seattle’s cultural institutions: The National Nordic Museum, The Seattle Aquarium, The Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) and The Burke Museum.
  3. Freegal - Download (and keep!) five songs a week. Did you know the Library has over 30 versions of Baby Shark? Try the Valentine's Day version, or learn how to sing along in Korean or Portuguese.
  4. COVID-19 Community Collection - Has your family documented your life in the COVID-19 era? Did you participate in a quarantine challenge? Contribute your COVID-19 era stories, songs, photos and videos to the COVID-19 Community Collection.
  5. Virtual Story Times - Our Children’s librarians have launched a kid-friendly YouTube channel full of Virtual Story Times for your little ones. They’re a great morning activity or for unwinding just before bedtime!
  6. Hoopla - Keep entertained with comics, graphic novels or manga on Hoopla. There are even "bonus borrows" that don't count against your checkout limit, with selections ranging from the Lumberjanes to Sonic the Hedgehog.
  7. Just for Kids - We have many videos just for kids – they can take a video field trip with Lavar Burton, or watch the Redwall books as cartoons.
  8. Kanopy - Take family movie night for a global tour with GKIDS Films – or if you’re really missing your branch librarians, watch The Librarian: Quest for the Spear.
  9. Beginning Drawing for 50+ - Do you live in a multigenerational household? Join us for Beginning Drawing on Feb. 19 with at the Library's art classes for older adults. All you need is a pencil, paper and eraser.
  10. Exploration Guides - Watch our new Exploration Guides, which focus on subjects of high interest to learners from grade 3 through high school.
