Fuel Fall Reading With Peak Picks Titles at The Seattle Public Library, Now Available at Curbside Service Locations

Want to dive into one of 2020’s hottest books, such as “Caste” by Isabel Wilkerson or “Rage,” by Bob Woodward? Seattle Public Library patrons can once again check out such high-demand titles with no wait through the Library’s beloved Peak Picks program.
Here’s how it works: All seven Library locations that are providing Curbside Service will offer a "daily menu" of around 10 Peak Picks titles that are available until supplies run out. Staff choose the 10 titles based on what's newest, what they think their patrons will like, or what stock is at hand. Patrons who arrive for a scheduled pick-up of holds through Curbside Service as well as those who arrive spontaneously for walk-up service are able to request any of those 10 titles.
“Readers can be assured that whichever 10 titles are highlighted on a particular day, each book was carefully selected by librarians to bring a great read their way,” said Linda Johns, Reader Services librarian at The Seattle Public Library.
As with Peak Picks in the past, the check-out time is two weeks because of the high demand for these titles. But there is no limit on how many different Peak Picks books a patron can check out (as long as their account allows it). Patrons cannot place holds on Peak Picks titles. If a branch runs out of a title, it would be crossed off the "menu" or a substitute added.
The current Peak Picks catalog includes high-interest titles such as "Transcendent Kingdom" by Yaa Gyasi; “The Lying Life of Adults” by Elena Ferrante; "The City We Became," the first in N.K. Jemisin's new fantasy series; and political bestsellers such as “Too Much and Never Enough” by Mary Trump and “Rage” by Bob Woodward.
It also includes titles from Seattle authors such as Erica C. Barnett (“Quitter”), Molly Wizenberg (“The Fixed Stars”) and beloved Library alum Nancy Pearl (“The Writer’s Library”).
PICK UP A BOOK
Seven Library locations are open for Curbside Service from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. These are:
