The 5th Avenue Theatre’s upcoming production of "Rock of Ages" is set in a fictional rock venue being forced to permanently close its doors. Seattle's real-life stories of threatened and shuttered music venues have played out and continue to play out in our city—a city which is trying to reconcile its storied musical past with rapid development. How can we continue to preserve both memories of our past and the venues which still harbor our region’s underground musical lifeblood?

Panelists will include:

  • Paul de Barros, author of "Jackson Street After Hours: The Roots of Jazz in Seattle"
  • Jonathan Zwickel, senior editor at CityArts and author of "Beastie Boys: A Musical Biography"
