Need a break from the mundane? The Seattle Public Library offers "Thrilling Tales: A Story Time for Grown Ups" where you can laugh, gasp and shudder to live readings during your lunch.

  • 12:05 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7 – "Disturb Not My Slumbering Fair" by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. You can’t keep a good woman down, even if you plant her six feet under. A grisly tale of the unstoppable undead.
  • 12:05 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. Monday, 21 – "The October Game" by Ray Bradbury. After years of simmering hatred, he would be sure to make this a Hallowe’en that none of them would ever forget! Bradbury at his ghastliest. Also, "A Week in the Unlife" by David Schow. Its dark and lonely work, slaying vampires.
