Local Students Read From Their Writing May 24-25 at The Seattle Public Library

The Seattle Public Library will host two nights of readings from local students participating in the Writers in the Schools (WITS) program from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636 .
Library events are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $6 after 5 p.m. A reception will follow each night of readings with cupcakes courtesy of Cupcake Royale.
Students will share original poems, short stories and memoirs they created during the in-school residencies of local writers. The May 24 program will feature readings from elementary and middle school students, and the May 25 program will feature readings from middle and high school students.
WITS is sponsored by Seattle Arts & Lectures. To spark interest and develop skills in reading and writing, the program places professional local writers in public elementary, middle and high school classrooms in the Puget Sound region. Through mentorship and innovative instruction of professional creative writers, students develop their voices, tell their stories and turn imagination into ink.
