Local Students Read From Their Writing May 30-31 at The Seattle Public Library

The Seattle Public Library will host two nights of readings by local students participating in the Writers in the Schools (WITS) program from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 31 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636.
Library events are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $6 after 5 p.m.
Students will share original poems, short stories and memoirs they created during the in-school residencies of local writers. The May 30 program will feature readings from elementary and middle school students, and the May 31 program will feature readings from middle and high school students.
WITS is sponsored by Seattle Arts & Lectures. To spark interest and develop skills in reading and writing, the program places professional local writers in public elementary, middle and high school classrooms in the Puget Sound region. The writers help students develop their voices, tell their stories and become authors of their own lives. Since 1994, the program has served over 100,000 students throughout the Puget Sound region.
