Printed version of speech given by Washington State Senator Samuel Henry Piles to the U.S. Senate on 3 February 1908. Senator Piles makes the speech for the purposes of calling the attention of the Senate to a bill requesting the participation of the government in the A.Y.P.E. Speech includes summaries of the purpose of the exposition, the benefits to the country of promoting the resources of the West (specifically those of Alaska) and a statement regarding the importance of the West to the rest of the nation.
