The Astor Hotel was designed by architects Thompson & Thompson and built in the former Japantown section of Seattle's International District in 1909, featuring a 400-seat cultural and performing arts theater, the Nippon Kan Theater. The theater served as a Japanese community center until 1942, when it was boarded up during the Japanese American internment.
