Learn how to manage your finances with free online classes during The Seattle Public Library's Financial Literacy Month that begins Saturday, April 18.

In partnership with BetterInvesting Puget Sound Chapter, we're offering classes that cover setting up a basic financial plan, understanding investment basics, and retirement planning. The webinars are free and open to everyone. Registration is required.

"With so much current uncertainty, it is more important than ever for people to learn how to make smart decisions with their money," said Huong Nguyen, Reference Librarian in the Business, Science and Technology Department at the Central Library. "Right now, people are stressed, confused and overwhelmed in so many ways. We want to help them organize their finances so that some of those worries can be resolved."

A Roadmap for Your Lifetime Financial Journey - 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday, April 18. Learn the basics of financial planning. A personal financial plan is the key to a secure financial future – free of money worries and stress. In this webinar, you'll learn how to think about money and identify the financial goals that are important to you. You'll also get information on formulating a practical financial plan based on your current finances.

Earn Your Financial Independence - 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday, April 25. Learn the basics of investing. Investing can be a way to earn your financial independence. In this webinar, you'll learn the basics of building wealth and how to reduce taxes and fees. You'll also hear about the different ways to invest during your working years, how to set up a lifelong investment plan, and how to maximize your investment returns without the use of a financial broker or advisor.

Planning for Retirement - 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday, May 2. Are you starting to think about retirement? In this webinar, you'll figure out how much money you’ll need for retirement and how far you are from being able to quit working. We’ll discuss possible sources of sustainable income, optimizing Social Security, Roth IRA conversions, the impact of taxes, healthcare needs and medical insurance. We’ll also discuss the transition from “wealth accumulation” to “wealth consumption” and how that affects asset allocation.

Living Your Retirement Life - 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday, May 9. Retirement is supposed to be a time to enjoy life, not a time of worry and stress about running out of money. In this webinar, we'll discuss how to weather economic downturns and prepare for unexpected health problems or unforeseen expenses. You'll also learn about tax-advantaged methods for your philanthropy goals and estate planning tools to bequeath your wealth.
